Evaluation of Grant Programs
Keystone Initiatives — Evaluation is
embedded into the development and implementation of the foundation's
keystone initiatives. Using key evaluation
practices, such as logic frameworks, we work with internal staff and
key external partners to clearly define our initiative conservation
goals, key threats needing mitigation, primary strategies in which we
need to invest, and indicators for measuring progress. In the coming
years, we expect to use the expertise of both in-house and third-party
evaluators to assist with the monitoring of keystone initiatives from
design to implementation to closure. We will use evaluation to compare
the impact of our initiative investments and to recommend programmatic
changes necessary for ensuring initiative success.
Charter Programs —NFWF is working to
develop logic frameworks for core charter programs for inclusion in
their RFPs. The program logic frameworks will be used to better
communicate program goals and to develop meaningful indicators for
measuring program progress. Grant applicants can use the frameworks to
demonstrate the links between their proposed project and the charter
program goals and strategies. Since 2003 NFWF has commissioned
third-party experts to conduct in-depth evaluations of several charter
programs. These evaluation reports are available in our Grants Library.
