Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
General Overview
What is a logic framework?
A logic framework is a tool to describe how your project is proposed to
work by linking specific activities to (short-term) project outputs and
(long-term) post-project outcomes. The framework summarizes the causes
and effects in the project. It tests these theories using statistical
indicators. Samples of logic frameworks of recent project awards can be
found at
What is the purpose of the logic framework?
Logic frameworks are meant to improve partnerships between the
Foundation and grantees. They allow the Foundation to better understand
how specific project activities lead to specific project outputs
(short-term changes occurring during the life of the project) and
post-project outcomes (longer-term changes occurring after the end of
the project) and how these relate to stated objectives. Completion
of the logic framework allows for applicants to better articulate the
link between their proposed projects activities and project goals,
provide measures for evaluating project outputs and post-
project’s outcomes, and to bring out “the larger
purpose” by breaking down the project into discrete activities and
their intended results.
How should this document be read?
You can scroll through various section of the document or click on a
specific section that addresses a specific issue. The document is
organized sequentially from a general overview to the various sequential
components in a logic framework: (1) objectives; (2) activities; (3) project outputs;
(4) post-project
outcomes; (5) indicators; (6) baseline values;
(7) predicted
values of project outputs; and (8) predicted
values of post-project values.
In addition, this document is a logic framework to the same fictional
project is included in each section describing one of the components to
a logic framework. Some aspect of this fictional logic framework will be
provided to help illustrate a key point as each part of the framework
gets completed. At the document’s end, the entire completed
framework is presented. At many points, we suggest to look
at examples of
exemplary, real-life frameworks from previously approved
applications.
What should I do if I am still having difficulty with the
logic framework even after reading through these FAQs?
