Engaging Partners
To solve the critical problems that threaten the survival of America’s wildlife and their habitats, we need every possible resource. That’s why NFWF’s signature approach – bringing the public and private sectors together in partnerships for maximum conservation impact – has proven so successful.
NFWF uses our federal funding as a springboard to leverage additional contributions from private sources, averaging a three-to-one return on investment. Our operations are structured to be as lean as possible, with just seven percent of our budget going to administrative costs.
Since our founding in 1984, NFWF has raised more than $1.4 billion in private contributions and grantee matching funds. When added to our federal appropriations of $576 million, the total value of our commitment to on-the-ground conservation is now more than $2 billion. We’re proud of that record, and honored to be part of the solution for the complex environmental problems in our country.
Our reputation for effectiveness is well-known among our partners, including numerous federal agencies and dozens of the nation’s leading corporations and foundations. Working together, we support science-based projects and community-driven solutions that protect and restore our precious natural heritage.
