Walmart and NFWF created Acres for America in 2005 with a commitment to conserve at least one acre of priority wildlife habitat for every acre developed for the company’s facilities. To date, the partnership has permanently conserved nearly 690,000 acres and connected more than 6.98 million protected acres—an area larger than Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware combined. In 2010, Walmart allocated funds from the Acres program to support NFWF projects for wildlife affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2011, Walmart expanded its program to include community-based projects in urban locations across the U.S.
