Grant Programs

NFWF advances conservation through a variety of grant programs, both thematically and geographically based. These programs represent innovative partnerships between the public and private sectors to improve environmental stewardship, protect and manage critical habitats, develop innovative solutions to conservation challenges, and support vulnerable species and ecosystems. Select a program below to see its description and learn about associated funding:

  • Acres for America, a NFWF partnership with Walmart, conserves critical habitat for fish, wildlife, and plants in 25 states across the U.S.
  • NFWF's Alaska Fish and Wildlife Fund supports local efforts in Alaska to protect, enhance and restore fish and wildlife habitat.

  • The America’s Great Outdoors Initiative is a national plan  to create and enhance urban parks and greenspaces, renew and restore rivers, and conserve large rural landscapes.
  • NFWF's Bring Back the Natives/More Fish program supports conservation activities that restore, protect and enhance native populations of sensitive or listed fish species across the U.S.

  • NFWF's Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund accelerates local implementation of effective strategies to restore and protect water quality and vital habitats.
  • NFWF's ConocoPhillips SPIRIT of Conservation Migratory Bird Program provides grants for conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.
  • NFWF's Conservation Partners Program helps private landowners across the nation address crucial conservation issues through Farm Bill programs.

  • Environmental Solutions for Communities, a partnership between Wells Fargo and NFWF, helps communities throughout the U.S. create a more sustainable future through responsible environmental stewardship.
  • NFWF's Fisheries Innovation Fund supports effective participation of fishermen and fishing communities in the implementation of sustainable fisheries in the U.S.
  • NFWF's Fishing for Energy program, a partnership with Covanta, works to reduce the amount of derelict fishing gear in U.S. coastal waterways.
  • NFWF's Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program works to restore coastal, wetland and riparian ecosystems across the country.
  • Forestland Stewards, a new partnership between International Paper and NFWF, will conserve and expand ecologically important forestlands and coastal savannas in eight southern states. The program will protect and enhance forest systems to create seamless habitats for wildlife and more sustainable forests to support local economies.
  • NFWF's Long Island Sound Futures Fund supports projects in local communities to protect and restore the Long Island Sound.
  • NFWF's Longleaf Stewardship Fund is a landmark public-private partnership that supports restoration of the longleaf pine ecosystem throughout the southeastern U.S.
  • NFWF's Pulling Together Initiative addresses one of the most significant threats to the economy and ecology of the United States: invasive weeds.
  • The Shell Marine Habitat Program, a partnership between Shell Oil Company and NFWF, supports the conservation and restoration of key coastal species and their habitats.
  • NFWF's Southern Company Power of Flight Program restores and revives the populations and habitats of birds in the southern U.S. through restoration and environmental education.
  • NFWF's Sustain Our Great Lakes program is a public–private partnership to improve the ecological health of the Great Lakes basin.
  • NFWF’s Western Water Program works to restore healthy habitats for many wildlife species by acquiring water rights from willing sellers to restore streams, lakes and wetlands.
