Small Watershed Grants

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has fielded numerous requests for updates on its 2018 Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund grant programs and the anticipated timing of this year’s Request for Proposals.  NFWF is currently negotiating funding agreements with its CBSF funding partners, and this year’s program will be on a delayed timeline. We hope to be able to provide a more firm timeline by late May.

SWG are awarded to projects within the Chesapeake Bay watershed that promote community-based efforts to protect and restore the diverse natural resources of the bay and its tributary rivers and streams. SWG projects result in improvements to local stream health and habitat, and/or the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay.

SWG are between $20,000 and $200,000, and must have matching contributions equal to at least 25 percent of total project costs.

All eligible projects must occur wholly within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Dedicated funding is available for projects in the Chesapeake Bay watershed in Pennsylvania. Projects located within NFWF’s Targeted Rivers and Watersheds will be prioritized. These locations were identified by NFWF as having significant opportunities for shared water quality improvement, habitat restoration, and species recovery outcomes.

For additional application resources, view the Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund 2017 Request for Proposals and past Applicant Webinars, which provide an overview of NFWF funding priorities and the application process.
