NFWF Grants Profile

Conservation Program(s): Hurricane Harvey Response Fund
Project Title: Assessment of Wildlife Habitat along the Texas Coast
Organization: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
Project ID: 2310.17.058912
Status: Active
Description: Currently, damage assessment has not been completed to a satisfactory level on important wildlife habitat in some areas impacted by Hurricane Harvey along the Texas Coast. Staff time, resources, and/or logistics have proven unsuccessful in adequately identifying current and future resource management issues, thus delaying project planning for recovery from impacts of the hurricane. This project is intended to provide helicopter flight time for project leaders, biologists, managers, and other personnel to identify and document possible damage (i.e., aerial photography) and issues related to both private (NGOs) and public lands along the Texas Coast. This project is the first phase in moving forward with identifying and estimating potential restoration costs on these important wildlife habitats (i.e., coastal marshes, nesting islands, freshwater wetlands, NRDA sites).
