Celebrating 30 Years

Over the last three decades, NFWF has forged a new model for protecting and restoring our native species and habitats. As directed by our 1984 Congressional charter (the original is shown below), we bring together the public and private sectors to expand the resources available for conservation.

Through this pioneering approach, NFWF directs public dollars to the most pressing environmental needs and matches those investments with private contributions. Working with government, nonprofit and corporate partners, we’ve helped to find solutions for the nation’s toughest conservation challenges.

Using our federal funding as a springboard to leverage additional private contributions, we’ve supported more than 4,000 organizations in all 50 states and abroad and committed more than $2.1 billion to conservation projects that protect and restore our nation’s wildlife and habitats.

In 2014, we mark a milestone in our growth and salute all those who have shared in our success.
