What We Do

NFWF Grants Profile

Conservation Program(s): Atlantic Flyway Shorebirds
Project Title: Addressing data gaps to improve predictions of a Structured Decision Making process intended to manage intertidal oyster aquaculture in the Delaware Bay to minimize impacts on horseshoe crabs and shorebirds.
Organization: Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, Inc.
Project ID: 0101.17.055253
Status: Active
Description: We propose to address four data-deficient aspects of the interaction of horseshoe crab and red knot with aquaculture activities on intertidal areas of the Delaware Bay to improve conservation and management of these resources. Findings from this work can be applied to improve USFWS-prescribed conservation measures designed to minimize impacts of aquaculture on the ESA-listed red knot and can be used to produce more realistic and informative results from predictive modeling that is at the heart of the Structured Decision Making process recommended for implementation by the USFWS for adaptive management of Delaware Bay intertidal aquaculture.
Award Amount: $55,000.00
Matching Contribution: $55,000.00
Location: The project location will be in Delaware Bay New Jersey. The location will extend from Miami Avenue to Reeds Beach Rd on the beaches in Delaware Bay New Jersey.
