Acres for America in Alaska

Salmon run in Bristol Bay, Alaska

In December 2022, Bristol Bay, Alaska, made headlines when the Pedro Bay Corporation permanently protected more than 44,000 acres of critical habitat for salmon, bears and other wildlife.

Home to the largest wild salmon fishery in the world, this area is essential to the cultural, ecological and economic health of Alaska as a whole. Made possible through Walmart's Acres for America program, the conservation easements protect critical habitat for millions of wild salmon and maintain subsistence uses, traditional activities and cultural resources important to Alaska Natives for generations to come.
