Project Title: Two Community Resilience Sites in Coastal North Carolina
Organization:
North Carolina Coastal Federation, Inc.
Project ID:
0318.18.062417
Description:

This project will build community resilience in an era of rising sea levels, and increased winds and storm intensities, by constructing living shorelines at two coastal locations that are important to the economy, culture and natural ecology of coastal North Carolina. These projects will protect: 1) the entrance channel of a harbor used by small commercial fishing boats in the community of Atlantic and 2) the entrance channel to the Town of Oriental’s harbor (sailing capitol of North Carolina) as well as its shoreline. These projects will naturally stabilize and protect the eroding shorelines to help maintain existing navigation channels, prevent flooding and build fisheries habitats at the sites.
