Develop preliminary level engineering designs for the removal of the Buttonwood Brook upper and lower dams, remediation of downstream culverts, and restoration of the adjacent floodplain, wetland, and riparian habitat. Project will plan for improvement of ecological function and resiliency in a segment of upland and tidal brook through enhanced aquatic connectivity, restoration of viable habitat, and support community resilience by reducing climate related risk through nature-based solutions.

The project site is located on the lowest reach of Buttonwood Brook which flows from its headwaters in New Bedford, MA to its mouth at Apponagansett Bay in Dartmouth, MA. Apponagansett Bay is a highly impaired sub-embayment of Buzzards Bay on the South Coast of Massachusetts.
