Grasslands Conservation in South Dakota
Grasslands are South Dakota. These verdant hills, stretching from the Badlands of the Dakotas and Nebraska to the foothills of the Rockies, form the Northern Great Plains.
This vibrant landscape is home to a unique array of wildlife, adapted to thrive with minimal disturbance. Beyond their ecological significance, these grasslands are crucial to South Dakota's economy, supporting a $3 billion industry in the state. More than 17,000 ranches rely on healthy grasslands for their livelihood.
That’s why NFWF and Cargill, through its BeefUp program, are collaborating on conservation projects. These initiatives aim to benefit both wildlife and the producers who depend on the land. When this ecosystem is healthy, wildlife thrives and local economies are improved.
