McDonald’s USA, one of the world’s leading food service brands, and Lopez Foods helped launch the Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative in 2025. The Initiative aims to help enhance wildlife habitats, conserve water resources and improve soil health. The Initiative is expected to also help strengthen the resilience of the U.S. beef supply chain, including due to economic benefits participating ranchers are expected to receive via incentive payments. The Initiative aims to support large-scale, voluntary conservation and grazing management practices on 4 million acres of grasslands across most of the United States. Key strategies that ranchers will be expected to adopt include improved grazing management, grassland restoration, and the protection and restoration of water resources and habitats crucial to both wildlife and ranching operations.
