In 2023, the United States experienced 28 separate weather and natural disasters costing at least $1 billon, for a total of $92.9 billion. In many coastal areas, in addition to the impacts of major weather events such as hurricanes, communities are experiencing high tide flooding 10 to 20 days or more each year, resulting in public safety and health risks, such as road closures, overwhelmed storm drains, and compromised infrastructure and water quality.

NFWF has partnered with federal and state agencies, and corporations across the United States to equip communities with the tools they need to respond to current environmental challenges, and prepare for future challenges, through strengthening natural infrastructure, while also improving wildlife habitat.
