Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Grant Program

The Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program seeks to develop nationwide community stewardship of local natural resources, preserving these resources for future generations and enhancing habitat for local wildlife. Grants seek to address water quality issues in priority watersheds, such as erosion due to unstable streambanks, pollution from stormwater runoff, and degraded shorelines caused by development.

California Forests and Watersheds Program

NFWF’s California Forests and Watersheds Program supports a variety of grant opportunities, funded through public and private entities, to increase headwaters resilience, improve forest health, and recover from and build greater resilience to wildfire, for the benefit of fish and wildlife throughout these environments.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company Nature Restoration Grants

Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Nature Restoration Grants, a partnership with NFWF, supports community-based stewardship and restoration of vital habitats in northern and central California.  

Sierra Nevada Meadow Restoration

NFWF's Sierra Nevada Meadow Restoration Conservation Program replenishes the health and biodiversity of mountain meadow regions. 

Walker Basin Restoration Program

The Walker Basin Restoration Program was established by Congress in October 2009. The Program’s primary purpose is to restore and maintain Walker Lake, and to protect agricultural, environmental and habitat interests in the Walker River Basin. Walker Lake is a natural desert lake in Nevada at the terminus of the Walker River Basin which includes lands in Nevada and California.

Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation

The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation supports the Chi-Cal Rivers Fund, which invests in the health and vitality of the communities, waterways and natural resources of the Chicago/Calumet regions.

Colorado River Delta Restoration Program

With an initial grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, NFWF established the Colorado River Delta Restoration Fund in early 2013 to support habitat restoration projects and related measures under “Minute No. 319,” which operates under the 1944 U.S.-Mexico water treaty.

Delaware River Program

The Delaware River Program is dedicated to restoring the fish and wildlife habitats and water quality of the Delaware River and its tributaries. The Delaware River Program currently awards grants through a single competitive funding opportunity—the Delaware Watershed Conservation Fund.

Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation

The Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation supports the Southeast Michigan Resilience Fund, which increases the resilience of communities and natural resources in Southeast Michigan by reducing the impact of stormwater, improving water quality, enhancing habitat, and increasing the accessibility and usability of public green space and natural areas. The foundation is particularly interested in the role of green stormwater infrastructure in reducing combined sewer overflows in the City of Detroit.
