Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund

In early 2013, a U.S. District Court approved two plea agreements resolving certain criminal cases against BP and Transocean which arose from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill. The agreements directed a total of $2.544 billion to NFWF to fund projects benefiting the natural resources of the Gulf Coast that were impacted by the spill.

Short Grass Prairie

NFWF's Short Grass Prairie Conservation Program supports habitat restoration and other conservation actions for the Lesser Prairie-Chicken, an “umbrella” species for numerous other grassland birds.

Hurricane Response Marine Debris Removal Fund

The Hurricane Response Marine Debris Removal Fund is a partnership between NFWF and the NOAA Marine Debris Program that awards grants to assess, remove and dispose of marine debris caused by severe storms. Grants are awarded based on the targeted debris’ existing or potential impact to coastal communities and resources, and to prevent further harm to sensitive marine habitats and species listed under the Endangered Species Act. 

Klamath River Coho Enhancement Fund

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Klamath River Coho Enhancement Fund supports the survival and recovery of Southern Oregon/Northern California Coast Coho salmon.

Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund expands, enhances and accelerates longleaf pine ecosystem restoration across longleaf pine’s historical range throughout the southeastern United States.

Fishing for Energy

The Fishing for Energy partnership provided commercial fishermen with no-cost solutions to dispose of derelict and retired fishing gear and offered competitive grants to reduce the impacts of derelict fishing gear on the environment. By helping prevent and remove derelict gear, Fishing for Energy restored the quality of marine and coastal habitats and supported communities and industries that rely on these resources.

Southeast Aquatics

The Southeast Aquatics Fund supports voluntary watershed-based restoration and management projects to improve the health of aquatic systems and secure populations of native freshwater aquatic species within targeted river basins and watersheds in the southeastern United States.

Emergency Coastal Resilience Fund

The Emergency Coastal Resilience Fund was established to increase the resilience of coastal communities located within federally declared disaster areas impacted by hurricanes and wildfires. The fund supports conservation projects that strengthen natural systems at a scale that will protect coastal communities from the future impacts of storms, wildfires and associated natural hazards, while improving habitats for fish and wildlife species.

Hawaiian Forest Birds

The Hawaiian Forest Bird Program focused on strategic investments to secure populations of three species—palila, Maui parrotbill and Nihoa millerbird, with an ancillary goal of applying lessons learned through focused recovery of these species to additional threatened Hawaiian forest bird species. In 2009, NFWF and partners developed the Hawaiian Forest Bird business plan for the conservation of Hawaiian forest birds to mitigate pervasive threats over a 10-year period.
